WRITING CENTER VISIT

I just got back from the Writing Center for my appointment with Melanie to go over the small object, large subject paper. I went in not really knowing what to expect; I'd never used the writing center for anything before. I must admit that it was a positive experience, and I could see myself going back at some point in the future. I only had about half my paper with me, so we read what I had out loud and that really helped me catch some errors in punctuation. She helped me work on breaking up my run-on sentences as well as brain storm ideas about how to continue my paper. She definitely helped generate ideas that I don't think I would have come up with, and I thought her perspective was very interesting. I'd definitely go back the next time I have writer's block.

  1. Thanks, Virginia! Even though you only went over about half the paper, do you think you had enough time with the tutor? Did you like the sharing of ideas
    ?

  2. That does sound helpful, do you think she gave you tips you could use without going to the writing center? Having someone else help you with your paper and ideas is definitely helpful.

  3. Professor Lay: I definitely found that I had enough time with the tutor. She was most helpful in helping me generate fresh ideas about what to write about in the other sections of my paper, as I was at a bit of a standstill. She came up with directions that I hadn't previously thought of, and I think it generally helped my paper to look at different ideas I perhaps wouldn't have come up with myself.

Will: I don't think she necessarily helped me to become a stronger writer; I can't say that I left the session knowing more about writing than I had before. She caught little writing errors in my paper that I perhaps would have caught when I went back to proof-read, but perhaps not. The most useful thing for me was when we came up with an outline to help me write the rest of my paper.
